iXiGO, the online trip advisor, has announced the launch of their customized app for Windows 8 users. The app is free, and is aimed at fostering the rising and transgressing advent of Windows 8 into becoming a prominent OS in Indian market. Windows 8 has been the much talked about OS, ever since it launched its beta version for user feedback and testing the bugs that mar the fresh take. The news has been diverse and ridden with controversies, as Microsoft has been trying hard to coerce the shift to an entire new platform on user experience and usability. iXiGO’s attempt to fast track this launch of the customized Windows 8 App might be due to the slow but steady progress which the new Windows 8 campaign has been making.
iXiGO has been making some skirmish in its attempt to catch a rather nubile market – a trip and travel advisory board, which aims to engage the Indian clientele in travel advisory services, akin to the local travel agents. The new app for the Windows 8 platform would be very much similar to the its online counterpart i.e. the website, as to the question of what it has to offer: hotel searches, flight status queries, delay or re design of itineraries, etc. There would also be links, apparently, that would help you obtain the best deals, as they would redirect you to the concerned websites.
Now, not much before, iXiGO also came along with another app, which was meant for iOS and Android specifically. The app, Yo!India, was fun mobile game app which would engage users in fun questions, quizzes, contest, etc. with content relevant to travel and tourist locations in India. Interestingly, iXiGO benefits from a combined stake/funding by MakeMyTrip along with other VCs. Now it must also be noted that MakeMyTrip is going the big way with its own initiative to gain prominence, and that is apparent from its recent acquisition of HotelTravel Group for $25 million.
We have also seen how TripAdvisor brought in the AR app in collaboration with Wikitude for Blackberry, which tells only one things – the market for travel based e-commerce is booming. It is a very organic move on the part of iXiGO to launch this app, but having said that it is simply a relay of its earlier initiatives to deliver quick access vantages for prospective users across every possible platform. We need to wait and watch how iXiGO is benefited with this new launch.
