Addicted To retail (ATR) presents: Camper showroom and office in Shanghai, China.
Chinese practice Neri & Hu have recently unveiled the new Camper showroom/office in Shanghai. Taking after a typical alley called a ‘Nong-Tang’ the structure within a structure offers a dynamic display area for the Camper shoe brand as well as conference/presentation areas and offices.
Reclaimed materials reflect the local colors and textures and are used to build a two-story house within a larger warehouse, creating a series of layers from within and between the spaces. The alleyway extends into the showroom from the exterior and literally splits the timber framed house in half leaving a bold red hatch at the cuts, opening several spaces that can be used for talks or smaller-scale events. Grey brick infills the wooden frame structure acting as a backdrop to a unique hanging shoe display suspended under the sky-lit ‘alley’.
