Following reports of its possible acquisitions, MakeMyTrip has bought Amsterdam-based EasyToBook.com (ETB) group of companies with an aim to enhance its presence in hotel bookings. The company said besides purchasing the shares, it has also further invested in the hotel aggregator and the investment is pegged at $5 million.
Deep Kalra, Founder and Group CEO, MakeMyTrip.com, said, “The acquisition of EasyToBook.com will add momentum to our stated objective of growing our hotel and online holidays business…it brings a strong domain expertise to the table.”
ETB was established in 2004 and primarily operates through its website. It offers customers online hotel reservations in Europe, North America and other key global travel destinations. Headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, its technology development team is based in Herzliya, Israel.
The latest acquisition might allow MakeMyTrip to enhance the hotel offerings for our Indian customers travelling to Europe and North America. “Furthermore, as we expand our presence , we look forward to welcoming inbound customers to our hotels partners in Asia,” he added.
The online travel company had bought Hotel Travel Group, which operated hoteltravel.com, for $25 million in November 2012. Prior to that, it acquired Singapore-based Luxury Tours & Travel Pte Limited (LTT) for more than $3 million in February 2011. MakeMyTrip is expected to garner revenues in the growing hotel booking business as it is struggling with income from air line ticketing.
