[topic]CHICAGO—While Chicago was cold and damp, many audience members to refuge and witnessed Shen Yun Performing Arts show at the Civic Opera House, Friday April 20, 2012.

David Putman, an insurance company Vice President and his wife Shirley, a retired school teacher, both were captivated by the performance.

“We really enjoyed it,” said Shirley, “We had seen an opera in Hong Kong which lead us to thinking that we might like to see this. We enjoyed the music, the dancing, and the voices were absolutely beautiful.”

Shen Yun’s dance productions are based on classical Chinese dance, and art that has been passed down over thousands of years that was continually organized and refined. It involves leaps, flips, and spins and other aerial tumbling with an emphasis of conveying a story.

David, who has visited China a few times was surprised that the show is based in New York and the dancers are from around the world.

Shen Yun Performing Arts mission is to reclaim and renew traditional Chinese culture through music and dance by bringing together world-class dancers, choreographer, singers, and musicians.

Reporting by Stacey Tang and Paul Darin.

Shen Yun Performing Arts, based in New York, has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world, with a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture. Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company will perform in Chicago through April 22.
