Chaplain Touched by Shen Yun’s ‘Spirituality and grace’
COLUMBUS, Ohio—“I loved the show! It was inspiring and spiritual and dynamic,” said Dona Morley. The Chaplain at Grant Medical Center in Columbus joined the highly appreciative audience at the Ohio Theatre, Friday evening, April 27.
New York-based Shen Yun draws upon the legends and stories passed down throughout Chinese civilization. By doing so, Shen Yun tries to revive the spirituality that has been lost in China under years of communist repression. Ms. Morley was deeply moved and said, “Just that spiritualness within it that talks about humanity and freedom. And that love, and that search for the Divine, and human beings wanting that connection, and wanting to be free to express oneself, it was just awesome!”
She elaborated, “Just the spirituality, the integration of the colors. It reminded me of dark and light, good and evil, and the songs that the soloists sung about wanting to be with the Creator and feeling the Divine, and searching for the Divine, it was all integrated into every performance that was presented tonight.”
Audiences worldwide have praised the choreography and gorgeous handmade costumes. Ms. Morley said, “I loved the colors, and the choreography.”
Referring to the performance, Snowflakes Welcoming Spring, in which snowflakes gather for a final farewell before warmer days, she said, “Oh gosh, I loved that one scene with the snowflakes. I love snow, it was just so beautiful, and the color within it was beautiful. The whole story and that evolution was great.”
Seeing Shen Yun has piqued Ms. Morley’s wish to learn about classical Chinese culture. She said, “The impact! I think it just makes me want to go more in depth as far as just the history that I have seen a little bit of tonight, and the tradition. [Shen Yun] helps me to remember that we are all human beings and spiritual beings, and we are all looking for that relationship with the Divine, and we can find it in many ways, through colors, and nature, and performances like this. Just to be able to dance, and the choreography and the music, those are gifts from the Divine, and to see that taken to its fullest—it’s inspiring, and for me it’s very spiritual, very meaningful.”
She said she would encourage others to experience Shen Yun for themselves, “Oh, its a ten and above! I encourage anyone to come see it next year and I hope to be able to see it next year. I encourage people to come and to hear the music, to see the colors, to be touched by the Divine by all the performers. It’s inspiring and enjoyable, and it was funny and full of emotion, joy, and just spirituality and grace!”
