Location of Sighting: Burnley
Date of Sighting: 15th August 2012
Time: 10.20pmish
Witness Name: Marie
Witness Statement: Standing at my back door which faces east, I stood watching the sky to see if I could spot any meteors as it was the last night of the perseid meteor shower. I have seen meteors before on a few occasions and as far as I am aware they always travel in a straight path. What I saw was a sudden orange flash of light that appeared high in the eastern sky and travelled in a roughly eastsoutheasterly direction. The startling thing was the way it moved and the speed at which it moved. It zig-zagged in exactly straight lines from left to right about 7 or 8 times at what I would guess was the same distance each time although it was evidently moving further away from the point at which it appeared. The speed was almost as fast as lightning and the effect was like when one waves a sparkler around on bonfire night and it leaves a trail of light. An orange trail of light that zig-zagged as fast as lightning but not in a random way, it seemed to be controlled and moving equal distance from left to right. It disappeared behind a neighbouring factory building so I don’t know how far through the sky it travelled before it was no longer visible. I have no idea what it could be and would appreciate it if anyone sawthis or has any idea what it was, to please let me know. As far as I know meteors do not zig zag and it definitely wasn’t a chinese lantern because I know what they look like and this was too high in the sky, and extremely controlled movement at the speed of lightning. I don’t know Of anything that cud move like this.
