Gerick and I celebrate Yule rather than Xmas– but, we often end up doing things with others who celebrate it. We were invited over to dine with a neighbor last night, getting to indulge in turkey and dressing with all the fixings, and I didn't have to clean up afterwards! Woot! Though we've hosted a number of evenings in which our neighbors were invited over, this was the first time we went to someone else's apartment.
Other than that, it was a very quiet day. Being lazy playing video games and such. Poor Gerick! As much as he's enjoying his vacation, not having things to do during the day makes him restless, with the result that he jumps in and does all my chores before I even get to them. Happy vacation to me too!
The other quietly remarkable thing is that this year all the neighbors made goodie bags or plates or tins to give away to one another with various little candies and cookies (my husband made mini-cheesecakes to add to my dozens upon dozens of cookies.) This is the first time in my life that I've had neighbors that do this (well… maybe a few of the nicer suburbs I lived in in the early 70s, but I'm not certain of those memories.) We had already planned to, but a couple of other neighbors beat us to the punch! Which was cool, because it meant we were all in the same sort of head space. The community of White Gables continues to develop…
As for gifts, beyond a few trifles, I'll be buying some Sims 3 expansions during the after-holiday sales. We're also going to a rather expensive show at the Crystal Ballroom to see Beats Antique! Zoe Jakes is the “lead belly dancer” and my hubby is a huge fan of hers, so that's my present to him (though I'm going as well.) The music concert is perfectly timed for the holidays.
