We're still getting along with our new neighbors, Tad & Darcy, exceptionally well.
Tad, it turns out, is a type 7 Enneagram-wise, with a 6-wing and line to 1 (so super responsible and not commitment phobic.) I confess I'm loving having a Type 7 as a new friend because at last I have someone around who jumps at the chance to try new things and go on little adventures. I don't drive, so I often miss out on trying out ideas (like going for a drive at night in the fog or when its windy and leaves are falling on back country roads.) Gerick is much more a homebody than I am, and I can only rarely persuade him to just disrupt a routine and go off for some weird little fun activity I've thought of. But of course, with more people, Gerick is fine with such things– he's just not into doing little adventures with me. Apparently, going anywhere with me makes him feel insecure or something–? I don't know.
Tad-? No such issues. He's also eager to help and pleased to jump in on any activity we have going. This harvest has gone vastly more smoothly and easily because Tad just volunteers– and he's not a 2, so he doesn't require vast gratitude or anything. Just something to keep him busy while he chats and jokes away! And he doesn't try to correct me or take over my kitchen, even though he cooks way more often than I do! That's a rare combination. So he doesn't stress me out at all and in addition keeps things jovial and moving along. He's also super considerate and keeps me company when our long-legged partners go striding off ahead during walks and hikes. The one time I told him to go ahead of me and he did, he came back abject and plagued by guilt, even though I actually requested a little alone time!
Darcy, on the other hand, is a type 5, with a strong wing (though which is still up for debate). He's more studious, obviously, and shy to start, but quickly we all warmed to one another. He's been the inspiration for the guys to do minimalism and get a tiny house and start re-skilling. He's the one who came across peak oil and peak everything and John Michael Greer's books and focused the 2 on moving to Oregon to start a new life.
Like me, he doesn't drive or work (except online contracts on occasion) and so I've found that I have a companion for spontaneous chats during the day if that's needed. However, also like me, Darcy needs his me-time to read and work on his projects (I've caught him playing with house plans like I do!) We like a lot of the same geeky things, and when it comes to worlds to love as inspired by media, he has that same nerd-love thing I, and other type 4 and 5 friends, possess. I've been catching him up on old stuff from the 80s and 90s– even the 60s like the British series The Prisoner, and he's helping me find what I missed over the last 15 years or so. He even gave me one of his old games, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, that he realized I could play and not get too over-whelmed. (And I'm loving it, of course.)
So when it comes to deep discussions and comparisons of knowledge, Darcy is the perfect friend. Tad, by contrast, is wonderful at elevating my mood and making sure I always feel comfortable. Together, I've found a very special set of friendships that seems to be almost too easy. We can talk about anything, and they already seem a part of my life though we've known each other about 2 months. Their 7 & 5 seems to work really well with Gerick's 6 and my 4, especially since they seem pretty mellow and chipper most of the time, which contrasts to Gerick and I being a bit reactionary and intense! We seem interesting to the guys, and they seem upbeat yet soothing to us. Its a good social combination.
