Lincoln, NE --(Ammoland.com)- OMAHA, NE --(Ammoland.com)- Today, the Nebraska Firearms Owners Association (NFOA), responded to Mayor Jim Suttle’s recent campaign ad threatening an “assault weapons” ban in Omaha.
Why is Mayor Suttle focused on an “assault weapons” ban?
In the past, Mayor Suttle has said, “In Nebraska we strongly support the Second Amendment right to bear arms, but the overwhelming majority of law-abiding gun owners know that with rights come responsibilities.”
Yes, Mayor Suttle, we, the law-abiding gun owners of Nebraska, understand that we have responsibilities. What comes as a surprise to us is that you’re focused on further infringing upon the rights of law-abiding citizens rather than on catching criminals.
Mayor Suttle has also said, “Legislation that keeps illegal guns off our streets and out of dangerous hands is the responsible thing to do.”
We, the law-abiding gun owners of Nebraska, couldn’t agree more. The great news is … those laws already exist. Unfortunately, you, as mayor, have done a rather poor job of enforcing those laws.
We, the law-abiding gun owners of Nebraska, would like Mayor Suttle to know that these so-called “assault weapons” (a purposely confusing and inflammatory term invented by politicians and gun-control advocates) are used in fewer than 2.5% of murders nationally (2011 FBI statistics).
Why not focus on something that would have a bigger impact on reducing violent crime in our city? Why try to ban rifles when hammers and clubs were used in more murders in 2011? (Approximately 4% of murders in 2011 were committed with hammers, clubs and other blunt objects.)
Even better, Mayor Suttle … perhaps you could expend as much effort (or more) on an innovative plan to eradicate drugs and gangs from our city. Hint: More officers on the street is not an innovative plan.
Mayor Suttle, we realize that not only do rights come with responsibilities, but so do positions of authority. Unfortunately, you’re using your position of authority to push a nonsensical, anti-Second Amendment agenda rather than focusing on real-world plans to reduce crime and improve our community.
Law-abiding gun owners are happy to accept the responsibility of handing you your pink slip in May.

Nebraska Firearms Owners Association is organized for the purpose of voicing the opinion of its membership to the Nebraska Legislature and other law making bodies within the state as well as Federal level, as it pertains to firearms. Mandatory registration of new purchases (and previously owned guns)?!? Maybe Omaha forgot that the State Attorney General (Bruning) Sued Omaha over its registration policy and won!?! So now, only if you have a CCW you can skip registration!? Maybe you forgot that you live in Nebraska, where the sex, creed or color of one another dose NOT matter..We all own guns! Maybe you don’t know, Nebraska allows the citizens to own Title 2 arms (real assault weapons) All other title 1 long guns (and I do mean ALL) are used for defense, sporting, AND hunting! Jim, your Ben Nelson tactics have ruined your political career in Nebraska 
This State is a Unicameral for a reason, we have the Senate and the People..Wanna guess whom has the most sway and say concerning Nebraska..see you at the ballot box come May.
Maybe you have already forgot about the recall vote to remove you from office, the one you barely squeaked by? Why is Omaha the worst city in the state for gun homicide, yet coincidentally is the only city with the strictest gun laws in the state?
Dear Fellow Americans, watch how Nebraskans’ handle politicians who attempt to infringe upon any of our rights!!!

Isn’t it funny how they blame assault weapons? Why don’t they then blame
cars for car accidents? Or why don’t they blame knives for stabbing incidents?
They just can’t seem to ever label the real problem can they? Assault weapons
have been back in circulation for a long time now.. And what has changed
to make young liberal parented men go off and start shooting? That is the
question they should answer instead of blaming some inanimate object that
just sits there quietly until some maniac strung out on SSRI drugs picks it up
as a “tool” to vent his frustration for bad parenting! But they just can’t go
seeking the real “cause”, so going after guns is their excuse that they never
had time to take their sons fishing or camping, or perhaps going to a shooting
range as father and son.. Instead they let Nintendo, and Xbox raise their
children for them since they couldn’t participate in parenting.. And
whatever you do, don’t blame big pharma for paying the doctors off to
prescribe dangerous drugs for millions of our citizens! Shame on you
and all your ilk Mr. Mayor.. But people such as him have no shame, and
can never blame that person looking back at them in the mirror.. It’s always
someone or something Else’s fault isn’t it Mr. Mayor?
We all know that an “armed to the teeth” population is a respectful, well mannered
population. That is proven over and over again, in many places such as Kennesaw
Georgia, and Switzerland who both require their populations to own guns.
We are also aware of the millions of times when a gun is just “shown” to a criminal
that the bad guys turn and flee.. We all know these facts, and whatever
fantasy world you are living in Mr. Mayor, excuse the rest of us for not falling
for your treasonous, communistic plot!
The right to bear arms is one of the major tenets on which this nation was
founded.. That right “shall not be infringed”. Even the Supreme Court has
ruled in that regard with the State of Illinois just last year. If you attempt
to remove the basic foundations that make our country “The United States
of America”, you are then forming a new country by proclamation of a few
overly opinionated blow hard politicians! We would then no longer be the
Nation of which our forefathers died to create. What entity or illegal government
are you representing Mr. Mayor? They have a word for that … hold on…
here it comes… Oh yes, it’s called TREASON! That’s right! Are you really
up for committing treason Mr. Mayor?
