Most people regard getting off the grid as power and water harvesting. But the grids that really matter are the political and economic grids. If you manage to get off the grid completely, you will have achieved a sovereignty not experienced since the Medaeval Commons.

Power and water are state monopolies. Adam Smith said that all wealth is created by work. Monopolies and Cartels limit wellbeing created by work.
