So you think you like weird foods? You may be a little Like Andrew Zimmerrn from bazzar foods and feel like you take on some crazy food challenges but nothing compares to Michel Lotito born 1950, died 2007. You see Michel had a very unusual appetite before he left this world. Michel did performances that would include him eating very unusual objects including but not limited to metal, plastics, glass and rubber.
I like all types of ethnic foods that some people would consider gross. They include Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican, Moroccan, Ethiopian and some others to just name a few. I even douse my food with a variety of hot sauces but really none of this compares to the appetite of Michel Lotito.
Although he died of natural causes on June 25th, 2007, over his life time he has many gastric accomplishments. He disassembled, cut-up, and consumed bicycles, shopping carts, televisions, a Cessna 150 and other items. His performances included disassembling, cut-up, and consumed bicycles, shopping carts, televisions, a Cessna 150,[2] and other items. At the age of 16 he began a very unusual appetite for what the rest of would say are inedible objects. His public performances began in 1966 and included some accomplishments (if you want to call them that) that would make a sane person just ask why? One of his food project began in 1978 and it was to disassemble a Cessna 150 (that’s a two seat airplane) and begin to eat it piece by piece. Of course we all know that airplanes are large objects but that did not detour him from accomplishing his goal. Over the course of two years, he spent each day eating just a little more of the plane until in 1980, he had consumed the entire airplane.
It was reported that while performing his unusual talent, he would consume approximately (2.2LB) or around 1 Kilogram of material each and every day. The trick (if you want to call it that was to precede each intake with mineral oil and also by drinking considerable amounts of water. Its funny that he could accomplish this unusual task but she stated publically that bananas and hard boiled eggs made him sick.
We have all been to all you can buffets but the total consumption of materials that Michel ate was staggering. It was estimated that between 1959 and 1997, he had eaten almost 9 tons of metal alone.
The clinical name for this strange food addiction is called “Pica”. Pica (/ˈpaɪkə/ py-kə) is characterized by an appetite for substances largely non-nutritive, such as ice, clay, chalk, dirt, or sand.[1] According to DSM-IV criteria, for these actions to be considered pica, they must persist for more than one month at an age where eating such objects is considered developmentally inappropriate, not part of culturally sanctioned practice and sufficiently severe to warrant clinical attention.
It would seem that Michel certainly suffered from this strange abnormality but apparently it did him no harm as he died of natural causes.
Do you know someone who has strange eating habits? Someone who eats things that you wouldn’t consider? List them below, we would love to hear your stories!
