(Before It's News)
Gendarmenmarkt is considered the most beautiful square in Berlin and a must visit for any visitor to the City. There are 3 prominent heritage buildings here – the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Franzosischer Dom (French Church) and the Neue Kirche (New Church).
Constructed between 1818 and 1821 – the Konzerthaus is considered one of the main works of Karl Friedrich Schnikel. The neo-Classical facade of the building is designed like a Greek Temple sitting on top of a steep flight of steps – very monumental.
The French Church was built between 1701 to 1705 by the Huguenots – a religious community that was persecuted in France. The tower of the church is open to visitors. You can catch nice view of the square and the city from the top of the tower.
The New Church was built in 1708 and looks like a close twin of the French Church.
