Over the last couple years, we have seen politicians, bureaucrats and mainstream news media push for more strict gun control and sometimes even outright confiscation.
To say that their views are misguided means that you believe they have the best interest of the people in mind and are just obtuse to the facts. The reality is that they know the facts very well and because those facts do not fit in to their agenda to disarm Americans, they just turn to lies and scare tactics.
Americans saw this happen on January 31st on television programs like Good Morning America, ABC’s evening news and 20/20. They put exaggerated, skewed and cherry picked numbers up on your television screen in order to literally scare you away from owning firearms. On “World News” anchor Diane Sawyer warned: “Every hour a child is rushed to the emergency room because of gun shots.” This, of course, being untrue.
ABC correspondent David Muir made the claim that “7,391 children rushed to the hospital every year because of those gun injuries, so often accidents in the home. 453 of those children die at the hospital. . . .” Which was again a scare tactic that used skewed numbers in order to fit their agenda.
Well here are the facts…….
The vast majority of the injuries do not involve little children, but older teenagers, including 18- and 19-year-olds (who normally would be labeled “adults”).
The injury rate for black males 15 to 19 years old was 13 times higher than for white males.
84 percent of the injuries were for 15 to 19 year olds and 62 percent as a result of criminal assaults. These injuries don’t occur from young children accidentally mishandling a gun in their own home, but rather as victims of brutal crimes, often gang related.
Most of these injuries were for 17, 18, and 19-year-olds, not the very young children that ABC would like you to believe.
According to the CDC ( Centers for Disease Control ) 76% of firearm injuries were for people under age of 20 were for 17, 18, and 19 year olds. The same ages that one can sign up for military duty.
Now what about the very young children that ABC claims there are over 7,000 that are rushed to the emergency room because of fatal accidents with a firearm?
