Residents survey a downed tree this afternoon at 8th Avenue in Bohemia, L.I.
A tornado touched down in Long Island Friday afternoon leaving knocked-down trees and piles of debris in the wake of its 41/2-mile run.
Preliminary information from the National Weather Service shows the twister hit near Great River before it tore through the town of Bohemia in Suffolk County shortly after 2 p.m.
The 85-mph winds snapped and uprooted multiple trees, knocking down power lines, smashing cars and damaging several homes before the tornado lifted in Ronkonkoma, officials said.
The tornado tore a 150-yard-wide path through Connetquot River State Park Preserve.
Power companies had restored electricity to most residents by Friday night.
No injuries were reported.
