Nearly 9% of California is experiencing “exceptional drought,” officials reported Thursday, the first time since the measure has been kept that conditions have reached the highest level of alarm.
The 2013 calendar year was the driest in 119 years of record-keeping. Gov. Jerry Brown declared a drought emergency this month, saying it was “perhaps the worst drought California has ever seen.”
Brown says people shouldn’t flush more than necessary or shower too long, and to turn off the water while shaving or brushing teeth.
Brown spoke Thursday before a closed-door meeting with Southern California water agency officials in Los Angeles.
There appears to be no relief in the near or distant future. Some cities such as Folsum will be completely out of water Brown warns.
Are you prepared?
