The saying is ‘April Showers Bring May Flowers’ and this may be true for California as a favorable pattern moves into position between April 5th and April 15th, with a shot of one or more storm systems into the region.
This update is focusing on the coming pattern as the cooler weather is expected to finally return to the region again after it has been unseasonably hot. At the moment the ridge is losing the battle and we are starting to see the onshore flow becoming established.
After this next weekend we will see a winter-like pattern with much colder than normal temperatures and shots of storm systems moving into the region. Our window for this is April 5th through the 15th for one or more storm systems entering the region.
Confidence is gaining for such a pattern change with each passing couple days in reviewing the current pattern. We are losing that ridge fast and the westerlies are beginning to become established. Contrary to the believe that February is the last month of our rainy season … we do at times see rainy months for April and May if the pattern is favorable. How else do you think tornadoes hit Oklahoma during tornado season? Most of the outbreaks in that part of the country come from storm systems that pass California and head east, that of which will bring an outbreak of tornadoes before the middle of this month for Tornado Alley.
