Nation’s Tallest Dam in Peril? Nor Cal Flooding Is Epic!
If you know anything about erosion and water you would know that a concrete structure is only as strong as the soil it is embedded in.
Remember Katrina? The levy failure was a result of erosion.
Remember the Arizona highway collapse? That was due to erosion.
One day man will learn that concrete can withstand wind and even earthquakes if structures are placed upon springs but when water erodes the foundation of your foundation it too can fail. The Oroville Dam near Sacramento is the tallest dam in the United States and the erosion there is destined and certainly must progress and figures to be, eventually, a catastrophic development.
Engineers need to hurry and pour as much fast drying concrete as possible into this monster chuck hole. They must start pouring concrete now and hope it dries in time to allow additional releases that do not threaten to side cut and or undercut the very foundations to the nation’s tallest dam. With rain falling on huge snowpack’s and with more rain on the way the reservoirs could be totally full in just a matter of days if it were not for the spillways.
