Obama Calls to Ban Anyone on the No-Fly List from Buying a Gun
Last night, Obama delivered an address on quote “keeping the nation safe”.
In it, he spoke of mass shootings, San Bernardino, and terrorism. He asked for Congress to officially declare war in Syria so we can send more of our troops to potentially die in a foreign nation’s civil war.
He also called on Congress to ban anyone who ends up on the No-Fly list from being able to purchase a gun.
“To begin with, Congress should act to make sure no one on a no-fly list is able to buy a gun. What could possibly be the argument for allowing a terrorist suspect to buy a semi-automatic weapon? This is a matter of national security.” (speech transcript)
Well, to begin with, no one even knows for sure all the ways a person can end up on this list, and lots of people have ended up on it who are not terrorists or connected to terrorism in any way without any reason or explanation.
People like this retired Coast Guard commander. And this prepper. And this eight year old. And this four year old. And this 18-month-old baby.
Well, if Congress listens to Obama, all of those people (and children) and many more completely innocent Americans who have somehow landed on the no-fly list without any due process whatsoever will now have their 2nd Amendment rights automatically stripped away for it.
On top of that, look at how inaccurate this list can be:
As for Jan Adams in San Francisco, she was one of a number of Adamses with the first initial J who were stopped last year. They included 23-year-old Jarrett Adams on June 5, 55-year-old John Adams and his wife on June 16, and 34-year-old John Christian Adams, who complained to the TSA last July.
Simply having a similar initial and last name to someone else can apparently get you flagged.
Not only has the FBI admitted that this list does very little in reality to actually catch or stop terrorists, but even the Wall Street Journal admits there are reasons to be suspicions this list is used to target political dissidents:
The flagging of some fliers who were political activists has even led to suspicions the government was grilling them because of their views.
Can you think of an easier way to disarm people who disagree with the government than this?
