Renowned evangelist Franklin Graham is an outspoken advocate for biblical values. In a recent Twitter post, however, he ventured into the realm of foreign relations by expressing his belief that no Muslim should be allowed to emigrate into the U.S. from a nation that harbors terrorists.
The post quickly became one of his most popular in recent days, sparking a reaction by a predominantly supportive crowd.
“Muslim immigration is a thoroughbred of Trojan Horses,” one Twitter user replied.
Another insisted that “Muslim ‘terror’ comes from the Koran” and will “bring it with them” if allowed to reside in the U.S.
A few individuals agreed with Graham’s premise in principle but doubted the current administration would act to preserve America’s safety and freedom.
One user wrote that “common sense and self preservation [sic] are not a part of the progressive agenda.”
Of course, Graham’s comments did attract some backlash. One critic wondered if his comment was “Gospel or politics” while another blamed the “Iraq War that [Graham] supported” for the rise of the radical Islamic group ISIS.
Still, others characterized his remark as a “discriminatory statement” or a generalization of those living in Muslim nations.
Some agree America must do something to combat the global influence of Islamic terrorism; however, they are not sure Graham’s approach would be most effective.
“Or should we see this as an opportunity to increase our missionary words and actions in limited access countries?” one user wondered.
A few on the other end of the spectrum felt Graham’s proposal does not go far enough.
One such commenter urged the U.S. to “halt ALL Muslim immigration.”
