ABC is trying to choreograph its way around a controversy over gay men dancing with each other on the hit show Dancing with the Stars.
The program’s Nov. 23 episode is scheduled to include the song Boys Like You by gay singer Who is Fancy, supported by Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor. Who Is Fancy’s choreographer decided that pushing the gay agenda should go beyond words because the song is about a man falling in love with another man.
It would “be an awesome look to have 2 males dancing with each other” to that song, the choreographer wrote DWTS executives.
The response was pretty clear. “Apologies all but this is a definitive no from the network,” a DWTS producer replied.
Sources tell TMZ that discussions about the dance number are continuing, and that ABC may allow dancing by two men as long as they are not touching. The example of the Nov. 9 show in which dancers Alek Skarlatos and Carlos PenaVega performed to the song We Will Rock You by Queen has been offered as a possible compromise.
The thought of gays dancing close together had one liberal’s hopes up.
“After the 2 guys dancing together for 30 seconds last week on DWTS, I hoped we would FINALLY see a same sex couple competing on the show!,” wrote ‘adam’ on Twitter. “This is the next logical step for a show that has featured transsexual and physically impaired contestants. I hope the show’s admins wake up and realize what a wonderful thing this would be for a show that is fading fast and needs a big ratings boost. I have scene(sic) many same sex dance competitions and 2 men dancing ballroom is beautiful and powerful!”
Most commenters were pleased with ABC’s actions.
“It’s a logical decision based on the percentage of viewers who would want to see that versus the percentage who would NOT want to see that… Common sense really,” said the Trolling Koala.
“Good,” wrote angel. “About time somebody stand up to this mess. The majority of people DO NOT want to see to grown men bumping and grinding on one another on TV. I wish they would quit trying to make everyone think that that is the natural order of things.”
