(Before It's News)

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took on one of the primary figures of the GOP establishment in a Twitter slam after an opinion piece targeted his performance in the Nov. 10 primary debate on Fox Business Network.

Trump tweeted Thursday:

Rove, who has been involved with politics since the 1970’s and managed President George W. Bush’s two presidential campaigns, was the White House political adviser Bush. Rove is also a Fox News contributor and has written for Newsweek. He recently wrote an opinion piece that was highly critical of Trump’s latest debate performance. “Mr. Trump’s worst moment came when he attacked the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal,” Rove wrote. He said Trump’s answer seemed to imply that China was a party to the deal. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, also running for president and sharing the stage in the prime time debate with other contenders, quickly pointed out that China wasn’t part of the deal. One of the moderators commented that China was affected because the trade agreement would open up markets with China’s competitors in Asia. Trump responded with continued posts regarding how much money was spent by Rove’s super PAC, American Crossroads, on Mitt Romney’s unsuccessful 2012 campaign for president. Rove’s PAC spent between $90 million and $160 million in Romney’s presidential bid.

Rove retorted with figures regarding the two successful mid-term elections in 2010 and 2014, but omitted the numbers from 2012. He mocked Trump’s tone saying the billionaire is stating a “YUGE error.” According to Rove, his super PAC helped Republicans win 60 percent of the races in 2010 and 71 percent in 2014.

This isn’t the first time Rove has launch a verbal gauntlet at the GOP front-runner. He called Trump a “complete idiot” last June after the billionaire announced he would run for president. He also criticized Trump for not defending President Barack Obama when a man attending a Trump rally said Obama was a Muslim.

Trump is running his campaign as an outsider with business knowledge and is funding his own campaign. Rove and his super PAC continues to support mainstream conservatives like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, brother to the former president and a lower polling presidential candidate. Other GOP members are looking to Tea Party conservatives like Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
