An Illinois woman has been charged with attempted murder after giving birth and abandoning her baby to die.
According to the Daily Mail, 21-year-old Xin Zeng was caught after her brother called 911 when he saw that she was bleeding all over the floor of their home in the Chicago suburb of Morton Grove.

When paramedics arrived, they did not immediately know that Zeng had given birth and Zeng wasn’t talking.
Apparently aware that something was off, the fast-thinking first responders searched the home and found the infant boy in a tied-off plastic bag, wrapped in towels, and under another pile of towels. Police Commander Paul Yaras said the baby’s survival was, “an absolute miracle.”
Initially listed in critical condition, the boy’s condition improved as time went on.
Abortion is a hot topic in the U.S. In 2012, there were nearly 700,000 legal abortions performed. While abortion is considered by many as murder, it is legal and may leave many to wonder why the mother would consider allowing her baby to die after the child was born.
Illinois is listed as a safe haven state, meaning parents who wish to relinquish custody and parental rights of their child have up to 30 days to bring their child to a safe place such as a hospital or police or fire stations.
Authorities believe that the quick thinking actions of the paramedics on the scene is the reason the boy is expected to make a full recovery. Police say Zeng lived with her parents, but her parents were out of the country when the child was born. Bail was set at $10 million.
