A California father is outraged after his 10-year-old daughter was patted down for nearly two minutes after mistakenly leaving a Capri Sun juice in her bag.
Kevin Payne, from San Diego, used his cell phone to video the encounter on Dec. 30 at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
“My dad was making funny faces silly faces in the mirror and I felt like screaming the whole time,” Payne’s daughter Vendela told NBC San Diego.
“I just kept it as calm, cool, compliant as possible, and she followed suit,’ Payne told San Diego Union Tribune. “Deep down I was absolutely fuming, but I knew letting emotions out was only going to worsen the situation for everybody.”
The YouTube Payne posted of the pat down has gone viral with over 70,000 views. In it, the father added descriptions on the screen to explain how the TSA agent kept going over the same parts of his daughter’s body multiple times.

“I know it’s to keep everybody on the plane safe, but she kept patting me down,” the 10-year-old told NBC. “Pat down, pat down. It was like, over and over.”
“In all, the pat-down and other extra screenings took about an hour, Payne said. The only way the family made it onto the plane was because it was delayed,” NBC San Diego reported.
Nico Melendez, a TSA spokesman, provided a statement to the San Diego Union-Tribune, which read: “Since pat-down screening is conducted to determine whether prohibited items are concealed under clothing, sufficient pressure must be applied in order to ensure detection.”
Payne is not persuaded. “The only difference between a standard adult pat-down and the search of his child was that the search of Vendela took almost twice as long as it probably should have,” he said.

If every one DOES as I do, I do not travel by air, I DRIVE, let the WHOLE airline industry go bankrupt, and those TSA child molester will be out of job.
It would only take around a week for the whole system to collapse, if people would only stop flying…..just one weeks protest and it would have to stop!
I like you now refuse to accept being molested, so I do not fly. Unfortunately, these people will complain but will probably still keep getting on planes, because they just have to have that vacation, regardless of the fact that they are knowingly exposing their daughter to perverts every time they travel!

If we passively react (which they know we won’t, because we have forgotten how to vote with our money and patronage) by not flying on the Airlines, then we suddenly will see all those unemployed TSA agents working red-light-stops in downtown city USA instead, while the economic impact of those airlines closing turns into ‘domestic terrorism’ and a justification to immediately seize your bank accounts.

Sorry, I did not see it. Although, I am vehemently opposed to these conditioning tactics by our gov’t, I am also opposed to parties trying to create situations that are not there. i.e. running super slo-mo in order to enhance the problematic areas in question. If the whole encounter was run at regular/normal speed it would not constitute the hideousness implied in this video.
As a father of two daughters, and three granddaughters, I understand your frustration. But, as one commentator suggested, I too will not condone this behavior by any agency, gov’t or private, to conduct such searches on my family, girls or boys. This is why we do not use public airlines as transportation.
