K Sparks 9

Whatever happened to real lyrics? In a time where it seems a hit song consists of a disgracefully remedial hook line and a few words of profanity, where do we find meaningful music? Meet K. Sparks. I was recently introduced to his music and checked out his latest mixtape, Read Between The Lines. I heard the first single “Show Off” and that prompted me to hear the mixtape in its entirety. I was thoroughly impressed with the production and delivery of K. Sparks’ rap flow on this track. If you can think of a calypso tinged beat with Talib Kweli and Bone Thugs N Harmony on one track, that’s similar (or better) to what you will find here. The production is unique and extremely addictive and K. Sparks’ lyrics deliver with no disappointments. Although there are many stand outs on Read Between The Lines, “Show Off” is probably my favorite.  K. Sparks is not afraid to speak out on his beliefs, even if it means calling out those of little to no substance. On “Stimulus Package”, another infectious track, he states “These rappers dumb it down like ten Wacka Flockas” Not only does K. Sparks have a rapid fire flow that easily rivals any of today’s hottest rappers, but he does it from a Christian perspective. There’s definitely a message in his music, but one that exists without being too preachy, but more so relatable.
