Moderate earthquake in the Philippines
Epicenter 41 km from Mamburao (Occidental Mindoro). Hypocenter (depth) at 15 km following Phivolcs, Magnitude : M5.3. Once again a totally different earthquake data set than other seismological agencies in the world. We do trust Phivolcs as the most specialized and accurate agency for earthquakes in the Philippines. USGS : M5.0@58 km; EMSC : M4.8@80 km; GEOFON : M5.2@38 km.
This is another example of how difficult it can be to compute earthquake data. In general we can say that the agency with the most instruments installed at close distance from the epicenter will be the most accurate, in this case : Phivolcs. Earthquake-report.com is not happy at all when local press is only displaying USGS values. They should at least always indicate the local agencies values.
Epicenter 172 km from Manila. The epicenter of this (subduction fault) earthquake was luckily in the sea which has weakened the shaking intensity.
Magnitude was not strong enough to pose a tsunami risk.
Shaking intensities as reported by Phivolcs 3th bulletin :
Intensity IV – Batangas City, Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
Intensity III – Pasay City
Intensity II – Quezon City, Malabon City
Intensity I – Tagaytay City

Useful information to read this daily earthquake list
This earthquake list covers important earthquakes in the world.
If a more detailed page is present, the earthquake line will be linked to the detailed page.
For your comfort, we will provide in most cases a Google Satellite Map to give you an idea where the earthquake struck, which terrain it happened and if villages or cities are located in the immediate vicinity. The multi-source approach has been setup to compare values as seismology is not an exact science and needs a lot of calculations. The reference for the time zone is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, also called GMT). Color explanation if we add some details above the list :
green color = NOT dangerous for damage or injuries
orange color = MODERATE risk for damage or injuries
red color = CONSIDERABLE risk for damage or injuries
QuakeSOS+ and QuakeSOS free are iPhone applications developed by Armand Vervaeck, the founder of Earthquake Report. The Application simplifies immediate group communication to friends and family members (with your exact GPS location) and is feeding the users with Earthquake Report news. The 0.99 US$ QuakeSOS+ version will support the activities of SOS Earthquakes.
