Though a little late, HTC has finally unleashed its Desire 626 mid-range smartphone in the Indian market. Priced at Rs. 14,990, the new beauty from the Taiwanese giant will be shipping in Blue Lagoon and White Birch colours options in the coming days. The handset was first unveiled in China almost a year ago with slightly different specifications, but it’s India-specific variant has got very late in taking on leading budget players rolling in the market.
The dual-SIM based HTC Desire 626 packs a decent set of specs, and sports a sharp 5-inch HD IPS display with a screen-resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The handset offers a decent visual experience, and powers up by a MediaTek MT6752 processor running at 1.7GHz, paired with 2GB RAM, Mali-T760MP2 GPU, and 16GB of built-in storage. It endows sufficient power for seamless work and play, and also includes support for storage expandability up to 32GB via microSD card.
In addition to all this, the camera of HTC Desire 626 also makes a very strong impression. The handset incorporates a superb 13-megapixel main camera with a BSI sensor, 28mm lens, f/2.2 aperture, and LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with BSI sensor. It offers a slick photography experience in all environments, and is well-equipped with a slew of features such as, panorama, HDR Mode, geo-tagging, smile-shot, and scene detection.
The connectivity setup packed with HTC Desire 626 includes all basic options alongside most advanced 4G LTE connectivity. It delivers smooth and glitch-free performance with support for 3G HSPA+, GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GLONASS, DLNA, and microUSB 2.0, and powers up by a 2000 mAh battery offering sufficient juice for non-stop work and play. The weight of the handset is 135 grams, and thickness tips at a decent 8.19mm on paper.
In a nutshell, at a price tag of Rs. 14,990, HTC Desire 626 looks like a decent choice for budget phone buyers. The handset offers a nice set of specs with good looks, but fails to take on renowned budget players such, Lenovo K4 Note, Xiaomi Mi4i, and LeEco Le 1s. It worth noting that the china-variant of the device with Snapdragon 410 SoC was slightly stronger compared to the MediaTek powered India-specific variant!
