Special representative from India and China will meet in New Delhi for fifteenth round of talks on the border dispute from Jan 16 to 17, during which it is also expected that they will sign a landmark border mechanism.
On Saturday, the External Affairs ministry of India and the Chinese foreign office in Beijing announced the boundary talks that were postponed in November after China objected to the holding of a Buddhist conference in New Delhi, attended by Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama, on the same day. China’s special representative Dai Bingguo will hold the 15th round of boundary talks with National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon, also India’s special representative.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) told in New Delhi, “In addition to discussions on the India-China boundary question, the two sides will hold discussions on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.”
India and China share a 2000 km border that has never been formally delimited. Both countries started to discuss border issues in the 1980s and two agreements were signed in 1993 and 1996 respectively, to maintain peace and stability in border areas.
