At 1017 feet tall, Moscow's Mercury City skyscraper will become Europe's tallest building when unveiled in December. Full Story: Moscow's Mercury City building is poised to become Europe's tallest building, according to the German-based researcher Emporis. It takes the honor from the British Shard skyscraper, which is 930 feet high. Russian retail billionaire Igor Kesaev's Mercury Group says Mercury City will reach a full height of 1017 feet when completed in December. [Igor Kasaev, President, Mercury Group]: “In my opinion the tower is really beautiful, it dominates the view of the whole Moscow City (business district), I think it will make the city nicer, will become a real landmark, the place where the people will meet and understand well where to go. It will be impossible to miss it.” The Mercury City skyscraper was designed by Russian architect Mikhail Posokhin and a US architect, the late Frank Williams. [Mikhail Posokhin, Mercury City Architect]: “I think we have made a building which totally differs from all buildings we see in its neighbourhood. How do I see this difference? From my point of view the difference is that this building suits Moscow and this place. It's hard to imagine it elsewhere, it cannot be moved let's say to Vienna or somewhere else, it will contradict the spirit of another place.” According to Kesaev, the project cost a total of about $1 billion.
