Sixteen finalists in the running to become Pambassadors, or professional giant panda caretakers, show off unique panda training toys of their own design. Full Story: Sixteen young finalists are in the running to become Pambassadors, or professional giant panda caretakers. The shortlisted competitors have submitted their designs and created toys for the endangered species at southwest China's Chengdu Panda Base. Breeders at the panda base often create toys with food put inside in order to train the animal to work for their food. This practice, which helps the animal strengthen attributes they usually gain in the wild, was passed onto the competition finalists on Tuesday. During the contest's final round, the sixteen youths were required to come out with their own designs for an educational feeder within an hour with the help of instructors and breeders. American contestant Melissa Katz, a hockey coach, designed her toy to improve the pandas' coordination and movement. [Melissa Katz, American Pambassador Finalist]: “It could be challengeable a little bit to get their food and I guess there is entertainment as well.” Chinese finalist Cen Yinrong said that the inspiration for her toy creation came from a traditional Chinese musical instrument, the Bianzhong. She used four flexible tubes that the giant pandas could play with to obtain food.
