Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has left behind the political power struggles of the Communist Party this week, attending a summit of Asian and European leaders in Vientiane, Laos. Wen, who will soon step down as Chinese premier, called for close cooperation on energy security at the Asia-Europe Meeting on Tuesday. He also urged the countries to work together on disaster prevention and mitigation. On Monday, Wen met with several European leaders, including French President Francois Hollande, Italian Prime Minster Mario Monti and Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev. The separate meetings focused mainly on bi-lateral trade and financial relations. Wen's line of up meetings left out Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda. China and Japan have been locked in a heated sovereignty dispute over islands in the East China Sea. The Chinese regime is also engaged in other maritime rows with its neighbors in the South China Sea. While the main focus of the ASEM summit remained on the Eurozone crisis, leaders agreed on the Vientiane Declaration to use peaceful means to settle any territorial disputes. ASEM was established 17 years ago. This week's summit included leaders from 49 countries. For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me
