Syria: ISIL Declares State of Emergency in Raqqa
Reports about the imminent operations of the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies to liberate the terrorist-held city of Raqqa have caused the ISIL leaders to declare state of emergency in the capital of the self-proclaimed Caliphate, informed sources said on Wednesday.
“As soon as the Russian envoy in the UN announced preparation of the Syrian Army and its popular allies to launch large-scale operations to liberate Raqqa and end ISIL siege of Deir Ezzur, the ISIL terrorists started covering their military vehicles and equipment in order not to be identified in case of any airstrike,” the sources said.
“The ISIL, meantime, has relocated scores of its forces and has transferred them to new hideouts without any flag of the group,” they added.
“The ISIL has built several underground hideouts for such days and has divided the hideouts between the Syrian and non-Syrian commanders,” the sources went on to say.
“The underground hideouts are equipped with the depots of foodstuff, weapons and ammunition and enjoy drinking water and electricity,” the sources said, adding, “The city of Raqqa enjoys radar and alarming systems to inform the group’s members to move to the underground hideouts in the time of air attacks.”
Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Spokesman Tajir Kobani announced earlier today that commanders of the SDF-affiliated groups in Northern Syria have, in a secret meeting, coordinated the process of a joint final operation for liberating Raqqa from the ISIL terrorists.
“Our troops with their heavy weapons have been gathered near Kobani in Northern Syrian,” the spokesman said, adding, “We will begin our operation from three directions simultaneously.”
“The SDF will make a push for the city from the recently liberated Tishrin dam Northwest of Raqqa, and from two more directions of Tal Abyadh and Hasaka Northeast of Raqqa,” Kobani went on to say.
The SDF that is comprised of mainly Kurdish fighters as well as a few hundred Syrian Arab dissident forces have received trainings from the US and have been provided with scanty US-coalition air support in their battles in Raqqa province in Northeastern Syria; but in Northern and Northwestern battlefronts, they have been operating alongside the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and received the Russian air backup in their Aleppo wars that started with the conquest of Tishrin Dam on the Euphrates early in February.
ISIL on Verge of Collapse in Mosul
Iraqi security forces have taken control of more districts in the city of Mosul in Iraq’s Western province of Anbar from ISIL militants, provincial sources announced on Wednesday.
The ISIL forces are so afraid in Mosul city that most of their foreign and Arab commander have withdrawn their forces from the city and only a small number of militants and suicide bombers aged less than 18 years have remained in the city, several local sources said.
On Monday, the Iraqi army and volunteer forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) seized back a strategic village near the city of Mosul.
The Iraqi army and Hashd al-Shaabi took full control of Karabuk village in Makmour region in Anbar province.
Karabuk is the seventh village in Anbar province that has been recently won back.
The six other villages which have been seized back include Mahanah, Kudilah, Kharbardan, Kamardi, Kharaba and Qaryat Umah Awah.
Also on Monday, the Iraqi army managed to gain fire control over a strategic road.
The Mosul-Hawija road is now within the fire range of the Iraqi army to pave the way for capturing Haj Ali region.
On Saturday, the Iraqi warplanes airdropped pamphlets for people in the Southern parts of the city of Mosul to urge civilians to stay away from the ISIL military bases in those regions.
Nineveh Operations Commander Brigadier General Nasser al-Hamed said Iraqi air force plans to intensify their attacks against ISIL’s military positions in the coming days.
The Iraqi air force airdropped thousands of pamphlets over al-Qayar region and the Southern parts of Mosul city.
The residents of Mosul have also been cautioned not get on board ISIL boats in order to cross the Tigris river.
The airstrikes will come in order to weaken the ISIL defense lines prior to a fresh round of operations to back up the Iraqi ground force in coming days.
Also on Saturday, the Iraqi army and popular forces continued their advances in Anbar province in Western Iraq, and killed over half a dozen ISIL terrorists, including one of their most wanted leaders.
Chief commander of the military operations in Anbar Ismail Mahlavi confirmed on Saturday that senior ISIL commander Shaker Wahib al-Fahdavi has been killed in an Iraqi army operation in the town of Rataba in the Western part of Anbar province.
Mahlavi added that seven other ISIL commanders were also killed in the Iraqi army’s operations in Rataba town.
The confirmation by the Iraqi army comes while Fahdavi was reported dead eight times before.
The Iraqi army, meantime, announced that ISIL’s war strategist was killed in the village of al-Asouja in Makhmour region in Nineveh province on Friday.
The Iraqi army inflicted heavy losses on the terrorists during its advances in Anbar province.
At least 70 ISIL militants were killed in the Iraqi army’s attacks on terrorists’ positions in Anbar province.
The Iraqi troops also destroyed four bomb-laden vehicles, including a Hummer, and defused all the bombs and mines in the area.
Meantime, the Iraqi army’s artillery units also pounded an ISIL gathering center in al-Rashad region.
The army units also annihilated the terrorists’ concentration centers in al-Ma’amir region in Anbar province.
Also on Saturday, the provincial officials in Anbar province disclosed that the government troops have made remarkable advances in Fallujah outskirts.
“The Iraqi military forces will declare the capture of al-Ameriya-Fallujah-Ramadi road in coming hours,” member of Anbar provincial council Taha Abdel Ghani told FNA.
Abdel Ghani reiterated that the Iraqi troops have earned the upper hand in the region and will soon win full control over Ameriya-Fallujah-Khalediyeh road.
The four strategic regions of Albu Asi, Al-Fahilat, Albu Daij and Albu Khaled are located alongside Ameriya-Fallujah road, making it a highly valued target for either side of the war.
Abdel Ghani pointed to the advances made by other Iraqi army units in the Southern suburban areas of Fallujah city, and said, “The Iraqi forces in a series of operations in Southern Fallujah managed to win control of several villages and al-Salam-Ameriya road and restored security to the road.”
Also on Saturday, the Iraqi army and volunteer forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) continued their advances in Anbar province against the ISIL terrorists and seized back a number of key villages and a strategic road near Fallujah city.
The army units are now in full control over several villages and restored security to Ameriya-Salam Road by pushing back terrorists from the region.
The ISIL terrorists’ armored vehicles and arms depots were destroyed in the army offensives.
The ISIL terrorists, however, tried to attack the Iraqi army’s positions with three suicide vehicles, but the Hashd al-Shaabi forces destroyed the vehicles and killed all the terrorists inside.
The Iraqi fighter jets, meantime, struck and destroyed the military vehicles and ammunition depots of the ISIL along Ameriya-Salam road.
Also, the Iraqi forces fortified their positions in al-Salam village to the West of al-Bu Gharib and took full control of its police center.
The Iraqi warplanes also hit the terrorists’ positions in the Northern part of the Euphrates River in the suburban area of al-Baghdadi region Northwest of al-Ramadi.
ISIL still controls Fallujah, only 50 kilometers (30 miles) West of Iraqi capital Baghdad, but it is almost completely besieged by pro-government forces.
On Thursday, the Iraqi army and Hashd al-Shaabi won back several more villages in Anbar province.
The Iraqi ground forces, backed by the country’s Air Force and artillery fire, recaptured four villages of Albu Khamis, Albu Khalid, Albu Asi and Albu Manahi, all located South of Fallujah.
The Arabic-language al-Sumaria news website reported that ISIL moved families of its members from Southern parts of the city to the Central areas but it did not allow civilians to evacuate those areas in order to use them as human shields against the advancing government troops.
Meanwhile, Mahlavi announced that at least 100 ISIL militants were killed during the past couple of days South of Fallujah and eight booby-trapped vehicles were also destroyed.
