How Does Rep. Duncan Hunter Look Like A Rick Wilson Tweetstorm
Yesterday, veteran GOP operative Rick Wilson and charter member of the the #NeverTrump club unleashed the most hilarious tweetstorm directed at supporter of Donald Trump that is possible to imagine:
Back in February, California Republican Representative Duncan Hunter became only the elected Republican to endorse Trump:
In an interview on Wednesday, Hunter told POLITICO that Trump has the strength needed for the job. “We don’t need a policy wonk as president. We need a leader as president,” Hunter said, adding that he has told his colleagues much of the same thing. “I’m in, and I’ve been in,” he said in a telephone interview.

“I’ve liked Trump since the beginning,” Hunter said, and he hinted that other members of Congress might secretly support Trump as well.
“I think you have more Trump supporters in Congress. They just have to come out of the closet, so to speak,” he said.
Now Hunter is not only going back in the closet, he’s hiding in the closet’s corner under his blankey.
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), who is leading outreach on Trump’s behalf to Congress and has been one of the billionaire’s most vocal champions on Capitol Hill, hit back at a group of reporters Thursday who peppered him with questions about Trump as he left the House floor.
“I am not a surrogate. I am a congressman. I can’t speak for anybody else but me,” Hunter told The Hill later Thursday, explaining his comments to the reporters.
“Everybody’s asking me to explain all these things that he said,” Hunter added. “Some of these things, I don’t know what Donald Trump is thinking. … I don’t know where Donald Trump is coming from.”

Hunter said some of the things Trump had said recently were “unexplainable,” so he wasn’t going to try to play interpreter.
Asked what Trump comments he was referring to, Hunter said, “When he said stuff about U.S. military taking money. I don’t know what he meant by that.

Greetings, Republicans who have endorsed Trump. Welcome to your new life. From now on, whenever you want to appear on television to discuss something that is of interest to you or your constituents, you will instead get to spend the vast majority of the interview being confronted with the latest stupid/offensive thing Donald Trump has said, and asked if you still stand behind him in spite of them.
Leon is exactly right as Duncan Hunter discovered and will rediscover with monotonous regularity and increasing frequency. At least if you are a Republican who has studiously averted their eyes from the tsunami of radioactive #FAIL that is the Trump campaign, you have the right to say, “I don’t know.” If you are a senior member of Congress who endorsed and touted Trump, you don’t get to say that. You endorsed him and what he says you own.
Hunter is proving Rick Wilson to be correct. You can’t spin the stuff says as anything but craziness and there is no possible excuse for supporting the guy, much less endorsing him.
