Minnesota struggles to slow deforestation, protect water. The forests of central Minnesota – a region that has the state’s highest deer densities and that protects a largely pristine but vulnerable aquifer – are being cleared at an accelerating pace, and regulators are scrambling to find a way to protect them.

 

Southern forests’ ability to suck carbon from the air may be slowing. New findings concern a team of scientists who studied data from 40,000 sites in 11 states.
