Times Internet Bolsters Backend Logistics With Delhivery

(Before It's News)

Times Internet Ltd (TIL), the e-commerce arm of Times Group has purchased a minority stake in logistics company Delhivery. The Delhi-based company will help TIL’s e-commerce portal Indiatimes Shopping to bolster its customer-end delivery service.

Online e-commerce companies have literally sprung up in dozens. They tend to offer similar products with very little differentiation. With uniform prices of the same products across these sites, it is very difficult to create a lasting impression on the minds of customers. Hence, it becomes necessary for such online businesses to either come up with huge advertisement campaigns or invest in higher customer experience techniques. A while back Yamdude had tried to garner attention of shoppers for Snapdeal. However, mere advertisements do not bring sustained results.

TIL seems to have understood that a fast & efficient delivery will ensure customers come back for the experience & not just for the products. Hence, TIL’s Director, Technology and e-commerce Gautam Sinha justifies this acquisition, “The rationale behind the move is its shifting focus on building its backend capability. For this, one needs to have a good technology. And for that, you would need an in-house logistics or a deep relation with a logistics partner.” India’s geography makes it really difficult to offer products to remote corners & that too within the 24-48 hour window. Therefore, TIL is also searching for more logistic partners with a strong foothold in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

Apart from logistics, Times Internet is also helping small brick & mortar shops to open virtual stores. Just last week, following the popular trend, TIL also launched an Android app & one for iOS for ease & convenience of shopping. If both the apps do well, it plans to offer one for Blackberry smartphones as well. Interestingly, TIL’s app will allow users to scan a barcode of any product & then counter-check the price of the same online. What additional improvements do our readers seek?
