Autonomous vehicles and flying drones that would disable a suspect’s car remotely with an electromagnetic pulse are set to patrol highways by 2025 according to a number of concept vehciles designed by major manufacturers such as Honda, BMW and General Motors.
The 2012 LA Design Challenge asked companies to come up with a concept for “Highway Patrol Vehicle 2025,” with the winner set to be announced next week.
Most of the entrants for the competition have responded with designs that overwhelmingly suggest “patrol cars and motorcycles would be replaced by computerized drones,” within the next 10-15 years, reports the New York Times.

There will be no highways, cars on mother Earth’s body.
Once the vicele is disabled then what.
I wonder how long it will be before entire families start “disappearing” instead of just their children ?
Are these people mad or stupid? As teresa said, not many countries can afford to buy oil and am sure car is likely to be placed in the museum and unlikely to be the mode of transport.
And this is why our government is phasing out Diesel powered automobiles. EMP can’t stop a Diesel unless there is an electronic system allowing something to turn off its throttle or disable it in even of power failure.!
Then the suspect waits. If they are too busy and can’t wait long for perhaps hours in an unsafe location, then they are guilty of fleeing. To disable a foot pedaled bicycle they need to surgically shoot our the tires. To halt a pedestrian they need to even more surgically shoot glue under the shoe or on other clothing leaving the suspect barefoot or naked. Our assets are guilty until proven innocent. Human beings are innocent until proven guilty. I suppose the search warrant can be shot out via projectile to affix it to the car. And it it’s a pedestrian, OOPS…
Did not know that…thanks.
Very interesting to know…I was under the impression that all vehicles these days had the same systems.
