Facebook Timeline Layout May Change Again; Facebook Is Testing A Modified One With Limited Users

(Before It's News)

Anything that Facebook does is headline news material; be it the launch of their IPO or changes in their timeline format. The fact that Facebook has 1 billion users means that everyone who is logged in has an opinion on how Facebook looks, what it should look like, how it should function and so on.

The last time Facebook made changes to its TL, the uproar was deafening. People were not happy with the double column format and wanted to retain the earlier timeline version. On Facebook’s part, the launch of the new TL layout was BIG news and they told users that this new format allowed for their data to be better organised. Launched in 2011, this new timeline was compulsorily imposed on all after August 8th, 2012.

Current news trickling in suggests that this new TL layout will soon undergo minute yet prominent design changes. For one, a single column format (as opposed to the double column format) will be adopted thus ensuring that all posts appear one after the other. Boxes such as ‘Friends’, ‘Photos’, ‘Recent Activity’, ‘Likes’ will continue to appear on the right hand side but they will be smaller in size as composed to posts. The bar of dates will now appear on the right hand side of the right hand column. This new TL is being made available to a small number of users for now. Based on their reactions and feedback changes will be made and implemented on a large scale.

Will users takes kindly to yet another change in the Facebook TL look? Let’s wait and watch.

In other Facebook related news, Facebook has added a feature to the Facebook Gifts offering. US users will now be able to make charitable donations in celebration of a friend or family member. For this, Facebook has tied-up with 11 non-profit organisations thus allowing people to make contributions towards a cause that is close to their heart.

I think this feature launched by Facebook has great CSR potential by the way that it is facilitating the donation-to-a-good-cause process. Though available only in the US now, once it is made available to users across the globe there should be a rise in donations and healthy gifting.
