Samsung, the smartphone giant is reportedly working on a new phone for the late 2014. This would otherwise be ordinary news as smartphone manufacturers come out with a new device almost every quarter, but the unique thing about this device is that it is touted to have a 20 MP camera.
The phone is said to be 4G LTE capable and runs Android, the default OS of the Samsung range of phones. Whether the camera capabilities are a deciding factor in picking a phone is not really clear across the customer base but it sure makes for a good selling point for people who would want to flaunt. Samsung also launched a camera which was integrated with social media for easy upload and sharing.
The smartphone industry seemed to be concentrating on the screen sizes in the past year when one saw screen sizes rise steadily from 3 inches to 5-6 inches diagonally. There was a fine line between phones and tablets when Samsung’s mega – 6.3 inches came out. Phablets are the new trend in the market now. Micromax, the Indian newbie is planning its own phablet and has Turbo (the 5.5 inch smartphone). The newer trends, such as the Nokia Lumia 1020 which came out with a whopping 41 MP camera, are emerging in the market. Phones are laying a lot of emphasis on the camera with Apple also breaking the tradition and making an actual effort on the quality of the camera across their devices.
The camera is also an essential part of the smartphone because of social media integration on the devices. The visual revolution on the social networks and also image sharing websites like Pinterest and Instagram have made it easier to express online and hence the smartphone’s camera capabilities are an indispensable part of the whole package. A 20MP smartphone release is made possible in part through Samsung’s recent exclusive agreement with Sony for high megapixel CMOS image sensors, as well as their much touted new ISOCELL imaging system.
