Uber has launched its premium car pick up service in Mumbai. This is supposed to be the testing phase and general availability has not been announced yet. The popular US company launched in India last year with Bangalore being its first city of operations. It then added New Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai to its list.
The current pricing for the service involves a base fare of Rs. 100. Additional fare is Rs.17 per kilometer/ Rs. 2 per minute. The minimum fare seems to be around Rs.200. The pricing is similar to to testing phase prices in other Indian cities. Testing phase pricing is not final and mostly rises during general availability. The Uber Mumbai fleet has Honda Accord, Toyota Innova, Mercedes Benz E Class and Toyota Corolla Altis at the present. During the trials in Mumbai, the service will only be operational in South Mumbai and around Bandra.
Users can book Uber cars from their mobile by using its iOS and Android apps. Competitors in the segment include Olacabs, TabCabs, EasyCabs and others. However, Uber targets the premium segment compared to the others. Olacabs had launched its premium service called Olacabs Luxury recently to combat the growth of Uber. The growth of Uber in the country seems remarkable as it seems to have scaled up its operations across the major cities in the country in a swift manner. We don’t yet know how the service is doing in these countries because it has not yet revealed its adoption numbers.
If you use the promo code ‘UberMumbaiLaunch’, you will get to enjoy 2 free rides up to Rs. 500 each. This is only for new users and is valid till 31st March. If you live in the southern part of Mumbai, you should download the Uber app and give it a try.
