8126234284 8fff54e0f0 o Book Festival & Giveaway: An Interview with Max Velocity Backdoor SurvivalToday I am pleased to share the first author interview in the Backdoor Survival Book Festival.  Max Velocity, the author of Contact!: A Tactical Manual for Post Collapse Survival Book Festival & Giveaway: An Interview with Max Velocity Backdoor Survival has kindly answered some questions for the The Survival Woman and is also providing one of my readers with a free copy of his book.

I will tell you about the giveaway in a moment, but first, let us have a chat with Max.

A Chat with Max Velocity

Tell me about your book, ‘Contact! A Tactical Manual for Post Collapse Survival.’  What is it about?

8126226668 b8d85fa9fd m Book Festival & Giveaway: An Interview with Max Velocity Backdoor SurvivalThis book  is the result of a detailed consideration of a societal collapse and the civil shift and aftermath that would impact individuals and families who are intent on survival. The purpose of this manual is to provide information to enhance security, tactics and survival skills of law-abiding citizens who are faced with civil disorder, lawlessness, violence and physical threat in a post-collapse environment.

The information in this manual is derived from years of experience gained from service with special operations forces (SOF) followed by years of employment as a security contractor in hostile environments including Iraq and Afghanistan. It is a distillation of military and security training, principles, and tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) adapted to the threat and environment anticipated in this type of scenario in order to provide knowledge needed to train to survive in a world turned upside down.

It is no longer just survival of the fittest but survival of those prepared. The manual will take you from self-defense as an individual, team and family, both pre and post collapse, and move on to tactics, techniques, procedures and training that can be used by tactical teams that you may need to form in order to survive. In a serious post-event scenario, one of total collapse with several months or years before recovery, families, groups and communities may be forced to create such tactical defense forces to protect personnel, loved ones and resources against marauders.

There is something in this manual for both the tactical newbie and the military veteran.

What type of research did you have to do while writing Contact?

Contact came about following my own research into prepping for my own family. I had read prepper literature and websites extensively and wanted to bring my tactical experience in to help people out in an area that I thought could use some help.

My assessment was that many people were strong in some areas of prepping, but that a certain amount of ‘ticking the box’ was going on with firearms and tactical preparations. I wanted to bring people the benefit of some hard won training and experiences that I have undergone.

How long did it take to write?

It took several months. It took less time than a fiction novel would, because it is a factual manual and it was a case of getting the right things down and laid out in book form.

Every book, fiction and non-fiction, includes a message.  What message to you hope my readers will take with them after reading Contact?

That you cannot simply ‘tick the box’ or tactical and self defense training. If things go they way many are predicting, and we face some sort of collapse, things have the potential to get very bad in a world without rule of law. If you are serious about surviving, you have to get tactically prepared.

Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself?

I have been a lifelong soldier with extensive military experience. I served in both the British and US Armies. I served with British Special Operations Forces, mainly with the Parachute Regiment which is Britain’s elite quick reaction force and which also provides support to the UK Tier 1 Special Forces, the Special Air Service. I served on six operational deployments, including to Afghanistan immediately post-9/11, and also a tour training and selecting recruits for the Regiment.

I retired from the British Army in 2003 and then spent five years serving as a security contractor in both Iraq and Afghanistan. This included working on contract for the US Government in Iraq, a year of which was based out of Fallujah, the rest variously based out of Baghdad and country-wide, and also two years working for the British Government in Helmand Province and Kabul, Afghanistan.

These roles were operational security roles that included exposure to multiple different training methods and operational schools of thought, as well as both high profile and low profile mobile operations across Iraq and Afghanistan. I then joined the U.S. Army and trained as a Combat Medic and Civil Affairs Specialist.

I am a U.S. Citizen and live in Northern Virginia. I am a family man with a strong interest in prepping. This comes from a desire to prepare for the worst while living to the best in our current society. Contact springs from my ruminations on the need to keep my own family safe and survive any coming apocalyptic event, and a desire to share this knowledge with other law abiding folk.

Do you have plans for another book?

I have written the two factual instructional books, ‘Contact’ and also ‘Rapid Fire! Tactics for Protection, High Threat and Combat Operations.’ I am now starting work on a fictional novel that will tell a post collapse story but bring in some of the tactical stuff into the storyline to illustrate things and build on the two instructional books. But it will be a stand alone novel.

Is there anything else you would like to share with my readers?

Prepare well, and stay safe. Are you ready?

The Book Giveaway

A copy of Contact!: A Tactical Manual for Post Collapse Survival has been reserved for one lucky reader.  You know how I like to make things easy so all you need to do to win is reply below in the comments area telling what you hope to learn from this book.  A winner will be selected next Friday at random using tools on the random.org website.

The Final Word

As you can see, Max is highly qualified to advise us on tactical matters relating to survival.  In my case, although I am an experienced prepper, I consider myself a a “tactical team” newbie.  Luckily, I live in a geographically remote area that is difficult to get to without a lot of effort.  That said, this needs to become an important part of my preps.  I hope to learn a lot from Max’s book and after reading it, I will share my review here on Backdoor Survival.

I would like to echo Max’s words:  Prepare well and stay safe.  Are you ready?

Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!
