Back From Faerieworlds

(Before It's News)

We ended up staying thru Monday morning, but it was worth it. Everyone had a great time, but as always– I am exhausted coming home. I did all those things I try not to do to exacerbate my illness, like drink, smoke (a very tiny bit), hang out in the sun, and dance hard with the young people night after night. Surprisingly, perhaps– though tired as hell today, I am not flaring beyond pain. So I “got away with it” this time. =^)

Sweet!

I saw Flora (and Jack) briefly working at a food booth at Faerieworlds. She signaled me that she was going to be a couple of minutes (it was very loud) before the Donovan concert highlight Sunday night– but then 15 minutes later she was still busy, so we wandered off to the concert. When I checked back later, she was no where to be seen. It was so late at night by that time that I realized it just wasn't going to happen. Also it was clear that Flora and Jack are back together-together, which makes me wince, but people have to figure things out the hard way sometimes.

I also ran into [personal profile] satyrblade and his lady Damiana while walking around. They were walking right behind me and never said a word. But I got a weird feeling and turned around and VOILA!– there they were. I had just adopted a little friend to take home and was walking around with him like a little kid (kind of delighted and feeling like a kid too!) and so very much in the spirit of things. Phil (Satyr) was shirtless and Dami was wearing a lovely flowing garment. We greeted one another, but it was a little awkward– do you hug a shirtless old friend who has mixed feelings towards you or not? Well, he leaned in so I leaned back for a half hug and it seemed to work out. They had a younger male friend with them who seemed very nice and quite interesting. We ended up chatting for a few minutes, but they were leaving after another lady friend was finished performing for the event.

Phil brought up the giant tree in Logan, Ohio that we all loved so much (he saw it when he visited us in 2005 or so) and it has apparently served as inspiration for a new tale of Phil's. (I called the tree Thor, as that oak giant's limbs when bare look like lightning bolts, so now I know where that association comes from in myth between oak trees and thunder storms.)

Check out this wonderful slide show of the tree here: http://www.fredfioto.com/hocking-hills-tree.html

The story will star a “mother oak” tree, though, which is very appropriate. “Thor” is just what I called this tree. It has another name, an Indian one that I can never remember. Anyway, I told Phil I'd post the pic of him posing on the tree with me for illustration ideas– and I hope the other links with pics and video help as well. If there is any tree that deserves a mythical story– its this one. LOVE that tree! Miss visiting it almost every day in the summers when I took my evening walks. Its a holy tree, and I don't use the word lightly.

I look like a sourpuss– but I was trying to look mysterious I think. Didn't work– ha ha! Oh well, you can see the scale of size pretty well from this. This monster is as WIDE as it is TALL– and the only reason there is a hill on this side of the cemetery is because the roots of this thing go down as far as its limbs go up and out. You can tell when you get close and the roots poke out of the bottom of the hill here and there. No pics of that, unfortunately. But yeah, “worldtree” where the trunk going into the ground is the centerpoint of a circular structure.

Got home and had to clean up after our old pooch, but then spent most of day resting. Plenty to do tomorrow, though!
