Last night, one of the many friends I made working in retail came over for the evening. Her name is Reese (a nickname), and I have only been around her when several other friends were with us, so this was the first time we hung out one on one.
We caught up on news in one another's lives (we haven't seen each other since April) and then I gave her 2 tarot readings. One ended up being about her romantic life, while the second was about why her life was so chaotic. She's a rock steady person, very laid-back yet practical and not all prone to causing drama– yet somehow she gets sucked into craziness. Part of it, as we discussed, was that she is a very tolerant person, and so other people who are eccentric or troubled are not automatically crossed off her social list. She knows people who are bi-polar, and autistic, and drug-addicted. But even correcting for THAT, circumstances in her life tend towards the wild. The tarot reading ending up being about how she was a naturally joyful soul who was exploring sorrow for the purpose of developing better compassion. It noted that a cynical sense of humor was ending up being part of the result.
Then I made cookies. Snicker-doodles. I was just in a cookie mood!
As I made and baked cookies, Reese and I stood around talking in the kitchen about various and sundry subjects for hours. Until almost 1am! But I found that this ended up being the best part of the visit.
I got to bring up the continued alienation betwixt myself and Titania over a major misunderstanding, and as Reese is a mutual friend, I hope she passes my words on to Titania. We talked about bad mothers (she has one, too.) We compared notes on many, many things. And I feel that we know each other much better for this visit.
And the cookies were primo! We were both just chowing down on those puppies.
By the time she left, a massive rain storm was hitting. Wind high enough to almost send rain horizontal! As we stepped outside the front door (winds from the south, so we left via the north so she's have at least a little protection) we faced a serious tempest, and I brightly quipped, “Good luck driving home through the tornado!” I mean, it was just terrible weather! I'll talk more about these incredible rain storms we've been getting lately here soon, but even for the rainy Northwest this is absolutely remarkable.
