Breaking: Shots fired near Capitol Hill

The street is shut down, but the entrance to Rayburn—a House office building— is open. Visitors and tour groups are taking photos and going through security

Police reports that a Man tried to run over Capitol officers

The situation appears to be contained after shots were heard on Capitol Hill, police say.

A man driving on Independence Avenue SW ran into a Capitol Police cruiser and then tried to run over officers earlier this morning, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson tells CNN. The situation appears to be contained.

This location is near the Capitol building. Metro police received the call around 9:30 a.m. ET, according to MPD.

Police apprehended the driver at 3rd and Independence Avenue. He is currently in custody. There are no reports of injuries, according to MPD.

CNN has reached out to Capitol Police.
