(Before It's News)

Weather Alert Central.com – Severe Thunderstorms will target Salt Lake City, UT, Las Vegas, NV, and the Northern Arizona areas through this weekend as an unseasonably strong upper level low hits.

An upper level low will position just west of Utah on Saturday into Saturday night.  This will start off thunderstorms across Las Vegas early in the period, but then on Saturday and Saturday night the upper level divergence comes into play, as noted in the imaged red-shaded zones.

The upper divergence and instability profiles suggest that severe thunderstorms containing damaging winds and large hail will be likely across this region.  A full lightning show is expected for much of Utah.

Because of the upper level low’s low level dynamics, I cannot rule out tornadic storms, which is rare for this area.

On top of that, isolated shower/thunderstorm activity will be possible for Phoenix and Tucson, AZ, given the tail end charlie of the frontal zone dynamics.
