Manchester (New Hampshire) Police Officer David Connare was arrested by New Hampshire State Police on Interstate 93 in Manchester following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night. He was arrested for felony reckless conduct and driving under the influence.
“Witnesses indicated that Mr. Connare was traveling at a high rate of speed when he crashed into the back of Ms. [Heather] Oregan’s vehicle,” according to the State Police news release.
As reported by the Union Leader, this is not Connare’s first act of irresponsible vehicle operation.
According to published reports, Connare was driving an unmarked police car on St. Patrick’s Day in 1997 when he hit another car. He later told fellow officers he didn’t see any damage so he left the scene.
But the other driver filed a hit-and-run accident report, and police traced the license plate to an undercover police car and to Connare. After an internal affairs investigation, Connare was suspended without pay for six months.
After his suspension was completed, Connare was charged with (improper) conduct after an accident, a misdemeanor; a Manchester District Court judge later dismissed the case against him.
And in October of 1990, before Connare was a police officer, another Manchester police officer reported seeing a speeding car go through a stop sign, lose control and hit a curb in the city. The driver abandoned the car.
The officer, Kenneth Murby later wrote in his report: “It was apparent that this subject had been drinking,” according to a report in the New Hampshire Sunday News.
According to that report, Wieczorek, who was then mayor, arrived at the accident scene and met Connare.
