Lanny Davis, who served as special counsel under President Bill Clinton and has been a longtime friend of the Clinton family, said the Hillary Clinton presidential announcement Sunday was just a prelude–and that a real announcement will be forthcoming.
The former secretary of state released a video Sunday announcing her 2016 presidential candidacy, followed by a trip that would take Clinton from her Chappaqua, N.Y., home to Iowa.
On The Kelly File Monday, Davis said Clinton “will have a formal announcement where she’ll talk about issues and her vision for America.” Davis had served as special counsel to President Clinton from 1996 to 1998.
“That wasn’t it,” Kelly asked?
“This is the introduction where she let Americans talk about what they cared about and what Hillary Clinton has been about since I’ve known her… is about other people,” Davis said.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., announced his candidacy the following day with less than kind words for the former first lady. “Just yesterday, a leader from yesterday began a campaign for president by promising to take us back to yesterday. Yesterday is over and we’re never going back,” Rubio said.
I live in an exceptional country where the son of a bartender and a maid can have the same dreams and the same future as those who come from power and privilege.
“You’ll get a lot more substance; I promise you,” Davis later added. Still, Davis’ remarks did not dodge criticism:
