Greta Van Susteren, host of Fox News’ On The Record, opined in a recent blog post that she has isolated a core complaint about the Republican Party that directly ties to the ongoing success of unconventional presidential contenders.
“Republicans,” she wrote, “are now asking themselves: what has the House and Senate accomplished since the Republicans have taken over and hold the majority in each?”
Conservatives have been let down by current Republican legislators, she continued, providing some specifics to back up her claim.
“For example,” the article stated, “the Republicans all ran on and promised simplification of the Tax Code but it is still filled with 3500 plus loopholes – and you know what loopholes are, special deals for special interests.”
In addition to Trump, Van Susteren noted that the “other two outsiders” in the 2016 GOP field – Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson – are also performing well in the primary while establishment candidates flounder in the middle of the pack.

Van Susteren’s sentiment that the “Republican establishment is in trouble” has been shared by others reporting on Trump’s unparalleled primary lead.
David Limbaugh wrote earlier this summer that the “long-simmering disconnect between the Republican Party’s conservative base and its leaders in government has degenerated into a full-blown schism.”
Limbaugh then speculated that “Trump’s explosive surge is because of his giving voice to the conservative base’s outrage and his refusal to be chastened or muzzled.”
In fact, he concluded, Trump has managed to bring establishment Republicans and Democrats together on one issue: “their contempt for Trump.”
