Opponents Thinking About Attacking Trump Will Want To Hear The 5 Words He Just Said

(Before It's News)

Donald Trump has a message for the opposing presidential candidates who want to attack him: do so at your own risk.

He admitted to the Wall Street Journal, in an article published on Sunday that his Trump brand took a hit in the weeks immediately following his announcement of his candidacy for the presidency, with the loss of contracts with companies like NBC and Macy’s, but now it is doing better than ever. “I’m No. 1,” he said.

At campaign headquarters in the iconic Trump Towers, a simple message is written on a white board: “Let Trump, Be Trump.” It is reminiscent of conservatives’ message to DC insiders who tried to handle the nation’s 40th president: “Let Reagan, Be Reagan.”

The message was specifically employed after Reagan had a mediocre opening debate in his 1984 re-election campaign. Many felt the Gipper had been over-prepared, rather than just allowing his true persona to shine through. Reagan did very well in his second debate, delivering a one-liner off the cuff that won the evening. The American people re-elected him in one of the largest landslides in U.S. history: 49 states to 1.

Part of “Trump being Trump” is going after candidates, who go after him. “I hope they attack me [emphasis added], because everybody who attacks me is doomed,” he told the Journal.

Trump has at least one former rival to point to in order to prove his point. Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry called Trump’s candidacy a “cancer on conservatism” in July and announced the end of his own candidacy in September. Arguably, there were other factors in play.

The most recently candidates to attack Trump have been Ben Carson, Jeb Bush and Bobby Jindal.

As reported by Western Journalism, Trump became upset with Carson, after the doctor questioned the sincerity of The Donald’s faith last week. Carson has since apologized. So far, Carson does not seem to be negatively impacted. He is currently running second to Trump in national polls.

It is unclear who attacked whom first, but Jeb Bush and Trump have been trading jabs all summer, with Bush going after Trump’s tone and style and lack of conservative credentials, and Trump hitting Bush for being low energy and weak on immigration and Common Core.  Bush has gone from being the front-runner in early polling to single digits, coming in third.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal launched a full-on assault of Trump at the National Press Club in D.C. on Friday; however, Jindal is hovering near the bottom in polling, so the move is seen as something of “hail Mary” to gain media attention. Jindal described Trump as a “non-serious” “egomaniac” “narcissist.”

Trump responded with two tweets:

The GOP candidates are slated to meet again for the second presidential debate, which will take place on Wednesday at the Reagan Library near Los Angeles.
