While a lackluster economic recovery means millions of Americans are struggling to find work, one Missouri man’s unconventional job search could pay off in a big way. Reports indicate Donnie Grooms had been unemployed for more than four months and, running out of options, decided to try a bold approach. He printed hundreds of résumés and stood on a busy sidewalk in St. Louis in an effort to hand out as many as possible.
After distributing just five percent of the documents he brought, Grooms was admittedly disappointed with the execution of his plan. When he returned home, however, he quickly learned that passersby were not the only ones to heed his plea.
In an interview with TheBlaze, Grooms explained that his wife greeted him by explaining that her phone and Facebook notification feed were “blowing up.”
Within 12 hours of its first social media upload, more than 2.5 million users had seen a now-viral image of Grooms standing outside of Busch Stadium. He posted the original to his own Facebook page.
Not only did he receive multiple leads from supportive Facebook users, Grooms said he has received several job offers as a result of his stunt.
He provided an update Wednesday evening, along with a link to his profile on the networking site LinkedIn.
Not limiting himself to a particular field or line of work, Grooms said his primary objective remains securing a “job that will support my family.”
