Adam Sandler’s new politically incorrect film, The Ridiculous 6, made Netflix history last month, becoming the most watched film during its opening period in the company’s history.
The Western parody has been widely panned by film critics, earning a zero percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 28 negative reviews to date. It is the first of four films Sandler agreed to make for Netflix in a deal signed in October 2014.
“In the first 30 days on Netflix, [Ridiculous 6 has] been the most-watched movie in the history of Netflix,” the company’s chief content officer Ted Sandros said. “It’s also enjoyed a spot at #1 in every territory we operate in, and in many of them it’s still #1.” Netflix defines the opening period as the first 30 days a film goes up on its site, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Netflix defended Sandler following the walk-off, telling ABC News in a statement that, “The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of — but in on — the joke.”
GQ’s Jake Woolf, who panned the movie, writes, “Whatever the reason, the people have spoken, and Sandler movies are here to stay (and stream) for at least the foreseeable future.”
