Following its word, Noida based company Ringing Bells has unveiled India’s cheapest smartphone, Freedom 251, at an unbelievable price tag of Rs. 251 (not even $4). The company launched this smartphone on Wednesday, at an event presided over by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi and Sri Manohar Parrikar as the Chief Guest. Freedom 251 complies with government’s “Make In India” initiative, and will be up for grabs on Thursday 6am via its website, freedom251.com. The phone packs a nice set of specs for moderate usage, and incorporates a bunch of apps such as, Women Safety, Farmers, Swachh Bharat, Fishermen, WhatsApp, Facebook, and YouTube.
As far as specifications are concerned, Freedom 251 packs entry-level specs that come with smartphones priced around Rs. 2500. The handset sports a 4-inch qHD IPS display, and powers up by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of inbuilt storage. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the box, and also includes an additional slot for expanding storage up to 32GB via microSD card.
Along with this, the camera setup packed with Freedom 251 includes a 3.2 MP rear and 0.3MP front-facing snapper. The dual-SIM based handset boasts a standard package for moderate users and complements the entire user-experience with basic connectivity options such as, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G HSPA+, GPRS/EDGE, and micro-USB 2.0. It powers up by a 1450 mAh battery, which again makes up an ideal package for Rs. 251!
It is also worth noting that Freedom 251 is not the first smartphone from Ringing Bells. Few weeks back, the little known company launched India’s cheapest 4G phone, Smart 101, at Rs. 2,999. Clearly, the company is making a habit of launching reasonably priced smartphones, but this one, is far better than standard budget phones that come around 2.5 or 3k.
Moreover, as far as warranty and service issues are concerned, Ringing Bells assures to provide full one-year warranty with adequate services from more than 650 service centres located across different parts of the country.According to last year’s reports, only 14% population of the country has access to smartphones. The numbers were growing very slowly in 2016, but with Freedom 251 in the game, there will be a big change in these figures in next few months!
